The Carlow Big Houses Festival is your chance to peek behind the doors of some of Ireland’s most lavish manor houses. Part of this autumn’s Taste the Island campaign, the festival allows visitors enjoy authentic food and drink, made using high quality local ingredients.
Talk with Dr Terence Dooley: The Burning of the Big Houses in the Irish Revolution 1920-23 Abstract: Learn why these grand manor homes were seen as symbols of political and cultural oppression in a changing Ireland. Hear the astonishing story of the burning of Irish manor houses during the Irish Revolution (1920-23) from well-known writer and historian Dr Terence Dooley.

Big House Play Abstract: Clare was born into wealth and privilege, but all is not as it seems. Join us as we follow her around Lisnavagh House and witness her enviable life begin to fall apart.
